In a blatant violation of the constitution, the governor of Tennessee just signed a law into effect to ban abortion from the earliest weeks of pregnancy. In partnership with the ACLU, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and local abortion providers, we took swift action to file a lawsuit against this abuse of power.1
Great news! A federal judge granted a restraining order within minutes of the bill signing this morning, temporarily blocking the abortion ban so carafem and physicians across Tennessee can continue to provide abortions for people who need them. Although we have temporary relief for now, this case will continue through the Court system for months to come, with imminent threats to limit the right to safe and legal abortion care.
Since opening carafem’s Nashville area health center over a year ago, we have seen the need for abortion care in our community. Week after week, we are contacted by clients needing accurate information about abortion, and every day we hear from clients how thankful they are to have access to compassionate, convenient abortion care.
Passing an abortion ban, which disproportionately harms Black and Brown people, when those communities are already suffering under the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and police violence, is an affront to the people of Tennessee. Will you help?
