About Us

carafem is ushering in a new era of abortion care in the US.

Unintended pregnancy is a common, shared experience and we understand the various emotions and barriers that can come with getting an abortion. That’s why we created the carafem model of care, which is client-centered care prioritizing convenient, compassionate, and efficient reproductive healthcare. Here’s how we’re different:

Healthcare with Compassion

Unintended pregnancy is a common, shared experience and we understand the feelings and difficulties that come with thinking about abortion. That’s why we created the carafem experience, which takes into consideration your needs, values, and preferences while offering convenient and compassionate reproductive health care. At carafem, we respect all our clients equally. Here’s how we are different:

  • Clients spend the time in our office one-on-one with their health care provider — not in a waiting room.
  • On average, clients spend 55 minutes in a health center for abortion pill appointments and less than 90 minutes for in-office carafem procedures.
  • We often hear from clients how much they appreciate our warm, caring team of medical providers and how quickly they can get back to their busy lives. Find reviews by location here.

Our staff provides clear, non-judgmental, and accurate information so you feel confident. We believe new technology such as online scheduling, text-based support (in select locations), and telehealth tools conveniently brings information to your fingertips. Our medical leadership has decades of experience in abortion care.

carafem (a project of FemHealth USA) is overseen by a board of directors that includes leaders in reproductive health care in the US and globally:

carafem’s Mission

carafem provides convenient and professional abortion care and family planning so people can control the number and spacing of their children.

Who We Serve

1 in 4 people who are able to be pregnant in the United States will obtain an abortion in their reproductive lifetime. carafem’s services are for all of these people, specifically those between the ages of 18-29 who account for more than half of all abortions. These people are seeking quality information and services to address an unintended pregnancy. The need for an abortion cuts across racial, ethnic, and geographical identifiers but 61% of abortions are obtained by those who already have a child and almost half of people obtaining abortions have incomes below the federal poverty level.

Diversity and Inclusivity Statement

At carafem, we believe all health care should be easy to understand and access; and centered around you and your needs. We work to provide the best possible health care in a way that celebrates all aspects of your identity, including your sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, immigration status, socioeconomic background, dis/ability and age.
