carafem is on a mission to update the experience and modernize the conversation around abortion. In an effort to capture attention and question social stigma, carafem launched its first ad campaign leveraging the power of the word “abortion”. The reason carafem is leading with the word “abortion” is because carafem seeks to reclaim the word, remove the stigma, and reposition it as the common experience it is for many women. This is a direct approach and one that will break down the stigma by using the word more openly. By utilizing the word “abortion” in a more conversational tone, carafem aims to deflate negativity and increase awareness of something that is, and has been, common in our society. In fact, 1 in 4 people who can get pregnant will choose to have an abortion during their reproductive lifetime. This statistic offers cultural validation for updating the conversation and highlights the importance of access to quality abortion health care.
And while the message in the advertising is clear, “carafem offers professional abortion services,” it is important to note, carafem offers care and support to everyone, no matter where they are in their process. We continue offer comprehensive contraceptive counseling, and provide the full range of birth control options while considering cost and convenience.
