“A huge strength is their person focus. It’s all about the best thing they can do for the person.” - carafem donor
“They’re the leader in the field when it comes to access to telehealth and medicated telehealth abortion.” - carafem donor

We’re committed to constant innovation to improve care and expand access
carafem participates in research that has expanded access, improved client experience, and increased education:
We partnered with Gynuity Health Projects in 2019 on the TelAbortion study, a groundbreaking effort to provide abortion pills by mail after a secure, encrypted video visit. Along with other abortion providers across the country, and with the results of another study with Ibis Reproductive Health, we proved it's safe and effective to receive abortion pills through the mail — informing the FDA's 2021 ruling to allow abortion medication by mail permanently.
A BMJ Public Health study showed 88% of carafem clients would choose telehealth again and said their care felt private and comfortable; accommodated childcare, travel, and scheduling; gave them a sense of reproductive autonomy; and that the communication was trustworthy and convenient.
Independent research in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology said carafem’s TikTok content was among the most popular and provided accurate and engaging information about abortion medication.
A 2020 Gynuity Health Projects study found a clear interest in same-day period pills without a pregnancy test, paving the way for greater acceptance of missed period pills. carafem began advertising this online option in September 2025 and wrote an op-ed published in Ms. Magazine.
Medical expertise and tech improve access and care for clients at carafem and beyond
We’re known for putting new technology and medical advances to work, so it’s simpler, faster, and more affordable for each client to get care for their unique needs and preferences. We proactively share insights and collaborate with other providers and advocates to improve the quality of care and expand access in the United States.
In 2023, Fast Company said Cara, is a femtech advancement that will lead to better care, more voice, and more information for women’s health, and is “especially valuable for historically underserved or discriminated communities.”
We won a gold Anthem Award in 2024 for saying “abortion” loud and proud in Times Square.
We train other abortion providers on client-centered care and telehealth protocols.
We collaborate with abortion providers and advocates through leadership roles in national abortion organizations, including the National Abortion Federation, Society of Family Planning, Abortion Care Network, Jhpiego, National Working Group on Period Pills, and DKT International.
We developed proactive protocols to help carafem and others continue care if mifepristone is banned with misoprostol-only, which carafem began offering and monitoring in 2023 in preparation for a potential ban on mifepristone.
We join — and win — lawsuits to protect clients’ access to care.
What our clients say about carafem
“I’ve used carafem twice and had medical abortions prior at local clinics. The difference is night and day. carafem representatives, nurses, doctors were non-judgmental. They explained the process thoroughly than any clinic I've been to and the care package that is sent with the abortion pills is heaven sent. Also, the package is delivered quickly. There’s no waiting in a clinic all day and no ultrasound required. The price is the lowest out-of-pocket price I have ever come across.” - carafem client
“It is so crazy how easy everything was to access and how fast everything got to me. I never felt alone during the process, because I had someone from carafem texting me through the whole process, answering questions for me, and guiding me along the way, so I didn’t have to worry if I was doing anything wrong.” - carafem client
“From the second you walk through the doors, they make you feel so welcomed and comfortable. The appointment was super quick (no waiting), the office was SO clean, and the staff was awesome. This was HANDS DOWN the best experience I’ve ever had when it comes any medical appointment I’ve ever had.” - carafem client
