Why vasectomy?

Vasectomy is one of the most effective forms of birth control available, yet it remains underused and difficult to access in many parts of the country. National claims data suggest that vasectomy rates increased by approximately 20% during the seven months after Roe v. Wade was overturned, compared with the seven months before.⁠

By adding vasectomy care, we’re supporting people from across the Midwest—including people in rural communities where options may be limited—who want to take an active role in family planning.

How does it work?

A vasectomy is a safe, highly effective form of permanent birth control. This quick, no-scalpel procedure is performed with local anesthesia, usually takes less than 30 minutes, and typically has a short recovery time.

Vasectomy is intended to be permanent. Reversal is possible for some people, but it is a separate, more involved procedure with no guarantee of success.

A vasectomy does not prevent pregnancy immediately. You will need to use another method of birth control until a follow-up semen analysis confirms that the procedure was successful.

What does it cost, and how do I schedule?

The self-pay cost for vasectomy is $500. We expect to begin accepting several private insurance plans and Illinois Medicaid soon. You can schedule an appointment online whenever you’re ready.
